The Power of One
The Power of One is a movie that is set in South Africa during World War II. The movie centers around a little boy named P.K., Peter Philip Kenneth- Keith and his life experiences growing up in an Africaans school and the obstacles that he overcomes in his young life.
At a very young age, P.K. was sent off to boarding school because his mother become too weak to take care of him beacuse of her failing health. While he was away at school, his mother suffered a nervous break down. After his first year away at school he returns home and his nanny began taking care of him becasue of his mother's illness and eventual death. He head a very difficult time being away at school. A group of kids made his life miserable by verbally and physically abusing him. I couldn't imagine what P.K. was going through. He was trying to be stron and contiune to go to school but it was very difficult for him.
If i were ever sent away from my family, i would feel like no one in my family wanted me or loved me. P.K. was constanly being bullied and was never comfortable with sticking up foor himself. As P.K. grew older his guardian, Doc, educated him about plant life, and how to play the piano. A few years later Doc was taken to jail and while P.K. was visiting him, he met a man who helps him learn how to box. P.K. had a dream to become a welterweught boxing champion. P.K. faces many hardships within his life and i feel that he overcame many obstacles both within himslef and the culture that he had been born into.
One of my favorite parts of this movie is when P.K. teaches the African people English, and then towards the end of the movie the African children were able to read and sound out English words. All in all this movie was sad to watch and I felt badly for P.K. and the life that he live. Despite all of his difficulties he had a dream to change the world and realized that if you set goals for yourslef that you can accomplish anything that you set out to do.

I like how you personally connected to the movie. I'm sure PK felt pretty abandoned and alone in this world before he met Doc.
ReplyDeleteI strongly agree with what you stated and I liked how you described the movie in chronological order and not just all over the place. I also like how you related back to your self in your response. The way you did this made me connect to your response and made it more interesting to read.
ReplyDeleteI also found certain parts of the movie sad, but like you said overall it showed you how you can achieve anything you want. Which I really enjoyed.
