“The Power Of One” reflection
Mallory Green 3rd hour

In my opinion “The Power Of One” was a fantastic movie. Although there were some sad parts, overall it made you really think about the struggle for Africans during the apartheid.
One of my favorite parts of the movie was when P.K. and Doc held the concert in the prison with all the tribes. Even though all the tribes were very different, they finally agreed to come together and perform. I enjoyed this part because all of P.K.’s hard work finally paid off, and he helped the prisoners become acquainted with one another. Another part of the movie that I enjoyed was when the medicine man gave P.K. his chicken. Which helped P.K. become brave, and gave him a new friend in boarding school. I also enjoyed this part because it was nice to finally see P.K. achieve something
One of my least favorite parts of the movie was when Jaapi Botha constantly bullied P.K in boarding school. Especially when Jaapi hung P.K.’s chicken, because that was the only friend/protector he had in his life and in school. Also Maria’s death really upset me. Not only did she die, but she died in front of P.K. and her father was partly responsible for it. Also at Maria’s funeral  continued to blame it on P.K., and threatened to beat him with a shovel. This probably made P.K. feel even worst about how Maria died.
In conclusion, I thought the “Power Of on One” was fantastic movie. That gave me more knowledge on apartheid, and illustrated how serious it was. For example, how Africans were constantly being punished unfairly and considered less than whites. Hopefully back then there were a few people like P.K. who saw past the outrageous laws, and realized that Africans and whites are equal.
