3. The media plays one of the biggest roles in perpetuating the idea of the single story. For example, you see all of those commercials on TV talking about how they need your money to help kids in Africa. Although a lot of children in Africa could use my money, not every kid in Africa does. These ads create the single story of ever place in Africa being in poverty; when numerous places in Africa are doing just fine with money.
4. I've created the single story an actor or actress's life always being great. Media influenced me into creating this mind set when I was little, but as I grew up and matured I have realized that many famous people like Lindsay Lohan, Amanda Bynes, and many more have fallen under the influence and their career went down the drain.
6. There are many dangers of the single story perspective. One is if you create a single story about a culture and you meet someone of that culture and try to tell them or ask them something about their culture, you just look rude and stupid.
Reflection:
(1st quote)
This is a very wise statement and I totally agree. I hate stereotypes, good or bad, because they are mostly wrong. For example, if there is a stereotype on a famous person being always nice and perfect, most of the time, there is so much behind that stereotype. They aren't perfect. They might be nice for the cameras, but off the cameras, who knows how they treat people. That's the incomplete part she mentioned.
"They make one story the only story." Many thoughts and examples of this pop into my head when I hear this. One example is Justin Bieber. When he went off and got into some trouble, the media was only focusing on that ONE story. They were only focusing on the bad, but actually, he is a good person, but he just went through a rough time.
I agree with your quote reflection, especially your reference to Justin Bieber. I have also seen many famous celebrities have a single negative story created about them, even though they truly are good people.
