Single Story 6. The dangers of the single story perspective can make you look at something a totally different way. With only one story you will only get one perspective of that thing that you are being told about. Just like if you got told Africa was poor and there was nothing but dirt there, that’s all you would think it is. But, if you got told many stories and by different perspectives then it would be different. 5. I haven’t been a victim part of a single story but I know of people who have. If you ask people what they think Africa mostly is they will say desert, poor people, or lots of animals in the wild. All that can be true but they don’t realize that, that is not the only thing to that continent. They only think what they think that have been told by that one story is true, and they don’t think otherwise because they haven’t been told many stories. 3. Media can have a big role into making people believe something about a thing or pace by a single story. When people watch the news or read something online they instantly think that it is true and only that is true. Media can send something out about a certain thing that they don’t like and then everyone will think it is bad because that’s the only thing that they’ve heard about it. Or they can send something good out about a thing and people will think it’s good but it could actually be bad depending on how many stories you hear about it. Quote- The quote “The single story creates stereotypes, and the problem with stereotypes is not that they are untrue, but that they are incomplete. They make one story become he only story” is very true. With a single story you could be told a stereotype about a place, a person, religions, countries, groups, etc. With that one stereotype in your mind you won’t want to hear anything else because you only want to hear what you want. Therefore what you have heard in that single story is incomplete. Not only you have to only believe that the one story you heard is true, it is also the only story that you will hear. That is why this quote is true but also very important to the dangers of the single story.

  1. I agree with how you responded to the quote. Many people hear a single story and then ignore all other points of views which leads to stereotypes and racial remarks.
